Strength in Numbers

Our History

Founded in 1966, the Des Moines Area Food Bank is an independant non-profit service organization. We rent our service location space from the Des Moines United Methodist Church. We received 501(c)(3) status in 1982, and we are registered with the State of Washington to receive Charitable Donations.

The Des Moines Area Food Bank depends on the generosity of our volunteers and donors to meet our mission.

Our small staff is supported by more than 200 regular volunteers.

Food drives, gardeners, and the purchasing power of monetary donations help feed hungry families.

Our Food Bank is strengthened through our partnerships with schools, churches, civic groups, United Way of King County, the cities of Des Moines and SeaTac, and individuals like you!

About Us

Community Support

Every month the Des Moines Area Food Bank receives more than 1,000 visits and responds by handing out over 110,000 pounds of food. Visitors receive a mix of canned, fresh, and frozen food, typically receiving enough food to last 10-12 days.

A true communal entity, the food bank relies on the community to support the community.

Partners

Our mission is to provide emergency food service to those in need, in the cities of Des Moines, most of SeaTac, and the West Hill of Kent, Washington. No one is turned away.
